If You’re Not From Vermont . . .

If You’re Not From Vermont . . .

(a form change poem with thanks to David Bouchard, If You’re Not From the Prairie . . . )

If you’re not from New Hampshire,

You don’t know snow.

You can’t know snow.

Our deep snow,

Our cold, cold winds,

Our snow days.

If you’re not from New Hampshire,

You don’t know trees.

They are higher than anything,

Far up on the hills.

We have ice that comes every year,

That you slip on every year.

Yeah, that ice!

If you’re not from New Hampshire,

You don’t know hikes.

Families enjoy going everywhere to see

Nature’s natural beauty.

If you’re not from New Hampshire,

You don’t know me.

You just can’t know ME.

You see, my heart is in the hike.

My toes are the tree roots that stay.

My hair is the breeze.

My eyes are the snow, white and bright.

I’ve seen the wind rustle.

I’ve seen the signal tree on top.

My home is New Hampshire

And nowhere else.

Gold!

So it all started on January 24, 1848, in California on John Sutter’s land.  Gold was found in the American River.  Gold fiver started!  What is gold fever?  Well, gold fever is when people wanted the gold all to themselves.  James Marshall started the gold rush when he found nuggets of gold.

Mini Space Investigation

brooke-space

There is a moon phase on June 4.  The next moon phase is at 4:00 a.m. on June 12.  On Monday, June 20th, at 7:04 p.m. the full moon begins.  June 12 is the quarter moon.  June 20 is a full moon.  June 4th it is a waning moon.

Playful Moon

I light the way for sledding kids.

The kids play at night in my light.

The kids’ faces lift up to mine.

The stars help me light the night.

I am the playful moon.

O.M.G. Flying!

Okay, so Young Eagles is a program where kids my age get to go in an airplane.  I went with Volcano!  She’s awesome.  Our pilot was Mr. Freeman.  I sat in the front.  Volcano sat in the back.  Oh, and it is not a plane with, I don’t know, twenty seats.  It was a four-seater plane!

“NNNnnnnooooooooooooo!”

That’s what we all said when we had to land.  Beware that when you’re about to land, your ears pop.  By pop, I mean POP!

Nothing is impossible with God!

brooke-noah-2

B: There are lots of examples in the Bible of times that God’s people had really hard things happening. Think of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being put into the fiery furnace. They completely depended on God and His ability to help them.

N: Nothing is impossible with God, and to remind you of that, we are going to do something impossible! Do you think I can walk on eggs without breaking them? I will!

***N carefully walks on the eggs, getting everybody to cheer for him, etc.

***B breaks one of the eggs into the bowl to prove they were not hard boiled.

B and N: (Read Poster) Remember that nothing is impossible with God!

*Before the next group comes, B puts a new egg in the hole where the one she broke was.

Electricity

So it sounds not, not, not fun without electricity, but it is really fun!  Like at Maine, all we do is go to the tide, sleep, nap, eat, play cards, and that’s it.  We also like to go swimming in the ocean as a family.

No electricity can help you know your family better.  Try, just try, to go one, just one, day without electricity.  Some things to do if you have no electricity are crafts, sing, play with Legos, bike, run, paint, draw, read, play sports, and just make stuff and do sports and stuff.  Do what you want to do for an idea.  Reed and I played volleyball with a ball and chairs, and it was so, so, so, so, so, fun.
